I am still on vacation but as I promised my fishing family (the best site in the world)...here are some pics. of just a few of the 9 different salt water species I've caught so far! Most of these fish as you will see (I'm totally hooked) have been caught with the spoon! Sheephead... Oh excuse the gloves. I have been catching so many fish that my hands and fingers are so cut up that it hurts to handle the fish without them . My 8 month pregnant wife who joined me this morning on thanksgiving also got in on the catching! Baby Grouper! The fishing was so good that even my 20 month year old baby girl (Sydney) caught her first fish ever ;D ;D...and guess what... it was on... a SPOON! The fishing has been so outstanding the birds thought they'd come over to the boat and check out what we were doing ...lol!!

Hey Kennybee, is that a remote control for your camera in your hand in the first pic? What a hoot. LOL
Now that you are totally hooked (yes you are officially a spoonhead), you might want to try another little trick I always use to avoid hurting your hands even when you have a 100+ fish day. Grab the body of the spoon with one hand and simply use needle nose pliers to grab the shank of the hook and snap the fish off of it! Make sure you have a decent size pair of pliers (at least 8”). With spoon bites, only one or two of the hooks are on the lip of the fish most of the time. And they are usually hooked on the lips (as evidence in you second and third pictures). I rarely have to hold the fish itself to get the hook off. I do this even with 3 – 4 lbs fish. There were lots and lots of days where I never have to touch a fish other than to take some pictures.
Another thing I often do is to get rid on the barbs on the hook (use the pliers to squeeze and turn)! This makes the releasing/unhooking quite easy. Do you lose more fish without the barbs? Not really. IMHO, it’s mostly in the rod, reel, drag, and how you play the hooked fish that determine how often you lose a hooked fish. This would make even more sense to you when you apply it as you catch countless of fish like you just did. Anyway, good to meet you and your wife at the picnic. Please say hi to her for me.
