I've got a 2006 TR-196 w/ 200hp 06 Etec. I was on Chickamuaga the other day fishing a tournament and ran into a bit of a problem. About 1pm I moved to an area upriver and when I stopped my motor wouldn't go in Neutral, I idled around for a bit trying to get it in Neutral and never could. I was afraid if I turned the engine off that I wouldn't be able to crank it w/out being in Neutral. I went back to the ramp and turned it off and to my surprise the engine would start but it still wouldn't be in Neutral, when I crank the motor it's is in gear at idle speed. It also will not go in reverse....... I called my dealer and have an appointment Monday but he seems to think that my lower unit may be out? That makes no sense to me at all, it runs fine I've taken it since and it's fine, just won't go in Neutral or Reverse. I thought it might be the throttle cable, I'm no mechanic but the throttle cable runs into the lower unit which is where the motor goes into gear right? Couldn't the cable be my problem? I bought the boat/motor new and have a 7year warranty so I'm covered either way, just want to get your take on it..... LB

Louieb , I think you might be on the right track with your shift cable. It could be that the cable stretched and will not go into reverse or you might have a problem with the linkage.

As 5 bass limit said could be cable stretch, also could look for a bad shift interupt switch, which kills power to 3 cyls to help shifting. Being an E-TEC of 06 model year should be covered under warranty. I would check that out before I did anything. JMHO
