Stumbled across this forum doing research on the float and fly tactic.......glad to be here!
I mostly fish Lanier from my yak for stripers and spotted bass. Will post up my first float and fly fish from the yak soon!

Greg, I'm interested in how you rig your kayak & yourself for winter fishing. I recently got a used Hobie Mirage Sport, but haven't had the nerve to get it out on water this time of year.

Thanks for the welcome, I know that Hammonds used to sell the FNF gear, if they don't have it where is the closet place to buy a kit from? (live in alpharetta)
Jimwarden, the mirage is a nice yak, I fish year round in my WS ride, a very stable yak, but still have to take precautions during the winter! Layers of clothing, waders and of course a PFD at all times during the winter are musts. If you have the money go for a dry suit, I plan to get one before the winter next year, as cold as it has been it would work well on a powerboat also!
Hopefully I will get a little practice with the FNF next week, I see the only challenge in the yak as being low to the water, long leader might be more difficult to handle, but I have fly fished from the yak before so I think it will work! I will probably stick to the 8ft rod length for now though!

Natures Tackle Box in Hiram is by far the best place, but quite a distance from Alpharetta. By the way, welcome to the board.

If you have any special colored flies she can do that as well. 678 567 1211 She also has small float n fly boxes to keep them organized as well. Mike

wow a yak fisher going for stripes... that would be insane to hook into a 35 lb fish and try to fight that... you'd be a bobber out there... glad your aboard!!
