What should the gauge read when the motor is at Idle, no wake speed and when the boat is on plane? Should the preasure go up or down as you get on the throttle? Is there a minimum or maxium it should read?

Ray, Mine doesn't even register at idle. When I open her up I'm 15psi or more..

leapin , Some gauges read at idle and some don't depends on the gauge it's self. The best way to tell if you have pressure at idle is look at the pee hole and see if it is shooting water in a steady stream. At wide open throttle you should have no less than 10psi if it less than that you should be concerned.

I don't know much about Mercs or Yammies, but I assume they are similar in a fashion. I do know a little about the Rudes, and the v6 engines will hold about 8 gallons of water in the block BEFORE you will see the real pressure. In other words, when I crank my 225 Rude, I will get a peestream of moderate pressure, looking at it, but none on the gauge. After it has run for a few minutes and the block has filled up, I notice the pressure of the peestream is noticable more, and the gauge will register any where from 2-4 lbs. Then when I blip the throttle I can see the pressure on my gauge jump accordingly. my pressure will read any where from 2-4 at idle to 18+ wot. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info guys. My concern was that the gauge was reading 6 - 8 at a dead idle, 10 - 12 at a wake speed idle and 26 - 30 + and WOT. Guess that new impeller 5 Bass Limit installed is just a lot more powerful than the old one as it never read over 20 before. I had never seen it peg the gauge before and did not know if you could have to much preasure.
