Out Sunday and had only gone about a 1/2 mile. Normal operating temp according to gauge on 225 Optimax is around 125. Went about 1/2 mile and motor starting shutting down, no alarms going off, RPM dropped and noticed water temp on gauge was around 65. Boat fell off plane and temp went back up and motor ran fine. Any ideas as to what may have happened. I would normally think if it had been a pump failure temp would have gone up, also water was still visible streaming from outlet hole on motor. Surface temp around 50 and air temp probably 60 at 11 am. My two thoughts were that a sensor malfunctioned or either the thermostat shut open with cold water.

Yea it could be a sensor or tstat you may have had a piece of trash or sand that caused it to stick open. Did you have any more problems during the day or did it run fine?

Basically it ran just fine except for one very minor hicup after that but not anything that concerned me. The first hicup did concern me as the RPMs fell off like motor was shutting down. I understand that this is a safety valve for motor if something is sensed wrong with engine. No alarms or no codes flashed. Just had temperature go from 125 to about 65. Appreciate your comment 5 Bass Limit.

Yes like 5 Bass said it sounds like one of your t-stats got some trash in it , and caused it to stick open , thus causing 45 degree lake water to flush straight through your block causing the temp drop. should be fine now , if it happens again pull the t-stats out and clean them .

Thanks to all of you. Trash is a possibility as I fished the last ABA and picked up trash that caused my speedometer to quit working. Cleaned it out and it works fine now.

If you find out that you lost around 200 rpms on top, that cold water may have fouled some plugs. Happened to me on the Optimax I had, after the T stat became clogged with some sand.
