Just got my boat back after being serviced and replaced water pump. I took my 85 150 mercury out the other day to try her out and I noticed when I started her up it was not peeing water but when I would rev the engine up it would then start peeing real good. Ran it for a little while and she ran great but it just would not pee any water when in idle. I've only owned one other boat in my life which was a 150 Johnson and it had a good pee stream always. Is this normal for the older Mercury's? I dont want to blow anything up.

Talked to the guy who did the service for me this morning and he told me alot of the older motors dont really shoot out a real good stream of water. That the theromstat has to heat up, it then opens and it pees out water. Im assuming he knows what he's talking about at least I hope so.

Yes he is right about the older mercury motors , the critical thing is that water pressure should not drop below 10psi @ wide open throttle or you will over heat the engine.
