I have a 2001 Nitro 750NX DC with a 75HP Mercury. This was the standard motor at the time. I'm looking to upgrade but have a few questions.
1. I know that there will be significant performance difference from 75HP to 115HP. But is there a big enough performance gain from 115HP to 135HP to go with the larger of the two?
2. Tracker boats maximum suggested HP rating is 135. I have seen boats of roughly the same length and width of my boat running 150's and 175's. Is there a reason why one boat of similar size could handle the larger outboard and mine cannot?
3. Regardless of size OB I purchase, would a transom jack be recommended and why?
Thanks in advance!! PopNBug

The horse power rating has to do with the boat manufacturer and the coast guard rating. If it is rated for a 135 then I would not exceede that rating because you will run into problems with your insurance for 1 and you do not know if the transom will hold together with a larger motor.
When you add a jack plate you change the balance point of the hull and put the motor in cleaner water which will give you more lift and in return more speed. You can get online and see if you can find someone that has done this with this same boat and save you some time and money if they have done it already. That way you do not have to be the gunniea pig for your self.

I think Merc, and I know Evinrude made a V6 135 hp motor for a year or two. They are hosses for their hp range!! If you could locate one of'em babies you would be in bidness and LEGAL!!!
