When I clean my boat interior mud from the carpet and such does down the drain and I was wondering if it might build up in the bilge. Is there anything I should do besides run plenty of clear water into the drain? Because of the drought, I have not "deep cleaned" just quick rinsed the interior.
Thanks!
Jeff

I saw a neat tip on the Bass Champs TV show today. The host said to put a bar of soap in your bilge. As it dissolves in the water, it is supposed to clean your bilge pump when it comes on. I think I'll give it a try.

If you put 2 or 3 squirts of DAWN dish washing liquid in the bilge with a Gallon or two of water and go to the lake for the day. When you get home pull the plug and rinse it should look like new.

Don't ever try to teach a hog to sing. It is a waste of time and it will annoy the hog.

Donell and I had a similar problem. The bilge pump was staying on continuously. Previous owner had spilled oil when filling the tank. It had built up over time and turned into sludge. along with leaves from charging outside under the trees and dirt from the drains. We took the scrupper cover off and poured Murphy's oil soap in hot water about 4 gallons. It was left to soak for about 30 minutes and then drained. With the drain cover off we could run the hose into the bilge with the little fire nozzle type end on it and washed every thing toward the drain. It was amazing what we got out of the bilge. The inside is really clean now, but we still had to change the bilge pump and that is another story alltogether.
