Anthony,
My 04 Johnson 115 made me nervous today. When we backed the boat in, I turned the key and she fired up as normal. I put it in neutral to get the fuel flowing good in to the carbs and she went dead. Normal if its cold no biggie. What happened next had me really worried and still bothers me. When I turned the key only the starter would turn but wouldn't engage the flywheel. Atleast I think this is the correct terminology, please correct me if im wrong. I took the engine cover off and had my wife turn it over. When she did you could here what sounded like an electric motor spinning but thats all. I tapped, checked fuses and had her try it again. It turned over and crunk right up. I didn't let this deter me from fishing and never had a problem from 11 am till 8 pm.
Any clue on why this happened? Should I be considering replacing the starter soon?
I'm baffled!

TW I would look at the battery first to make sure that it is good and go from there.

I was wondering if possibly its not holding a consistent charge but even with fishing all day today it never dropped below 12 volts according to my depth finder.
I'll keep an eye on it.

I would have it load tested and that will tell you if it is good or not.

Not having a clue how one would "load" test a battery, I guessing this is something like Autozone does to test a battery correct?
Pardon the ignorance Anthony, as always, you are a blessing to this board!

Yes any parts store should have the tester and will do it for free.
