This is why I stick to fishing!!!! This is the golf course off Hartley Bridge Road in Macon. This is a timber rattler killed last week-end. It is by far the biggest rattle snake I have ever seen. Although diamond back rattlers get this big and maybe even bigger, I did not know those timber rattlers reached that size. I have not talked to Ollie about how many rattles it had or it's actual size and length was, but since he is about 5'9" the snake appears to be at least 8 feet long if not longer, and is bigger around than his arms. He killed the snake on number 8 at Oakview while looking for his ball. He killed the snake with a 2 iron. The man holding the snake is greens keeper.

Cripes!! Heck I would have just ran.. I killed one about 6.5 feet while squirriel hunting. Thats as close to death as I ever want to be. 11 rattles and a button to be exact. He was so close I couldn't even see the snake in the scope of my .22 rifle. I just aimed at a blob and pulled the trigger.

First off, this photo has been circling the net for a long time. No one knows for sure where its origin is. Second, it doesn't appear dead to me, the direction of it's rattlers indicate that its alive. This guy is rightfully holding the bohemoth a way from him and in doing so distorts the over size of this snake. Trick photography if you will. Regardless, had I come in to range of this snake, I would have had two movements. . .A physical movement and a bowel movement. . .POOP. . .RUN. . . Here's another one that dwarfs this one since you are looking . . . Here's a link to Snopes for the original photo in this post. It's not nice for business spreading things that aren't true as noted in the link. These guys are having issues with people not wanting to play since this was spread it was on their golf course. I'm not poking at you Soretoe, just in general when posting things that have been forwarded. www.snopes.com/photos/animals/georgiasnake.asp-T

Check the back ground of my pic. Its a swamp. I knew it wasn't a golf course. I also know what snopes and several other similar sites are. It was a simple pic to get a chuckle.
Sorry that I tipped your apple cart........

Sorry that I tipped your apple cart........ LOL - You tipped nothing with me sir. Please don't take my post the wrong way. Thanks for posting the photo. If nothing else it may have reminded folks how large and deadly these creatures are. I did some poking around after the post and found a page done by a guy that got bit in the hand with a diamond back. I am amazed the guy lived to tell it much less have use of his hand to type up the page. My post was not directed towards you in anyway. Just in general. Having managed systems that send this stuff out daily, did you know that 99% of all email traffic is either unsolicited, chain mails, or rumors? The same type of emails that are used to spread almost all of the viruses sent through mail servers. Trust me when I say a lot of sleepless nights have went in to fixing or protecting mail systems so I just like to make people aware of that don't believe everything you read and be careful when it names people and places. In this instance it hurt their business. That's all. -Terry
