Hey guys, my name is Jeff. I live in downtown Atlanta (Grant Park). Just hit the big 4-0, and caught the fishing bug from a friend during thus celebration. Now its time to slow life down a little and enjoy the more serene things in life. Wife is fully supportive of my new hobby, but not how much i spent at Bass Pro last night! My mom has a 35' pontoon at Allatoona Landing, and dad has a 24' Sea Ray nearby. They aren't great for fishing, but ill make it work I am a TOTAL newbie at fishing. Ive been all of 5 times 3 in georgia. twice deep sea fishing in desting. Just a normal kinda guy, lies college football, music, boats, brew, the outdoors, and now fishing. If any of you new guys wanna meet up, and learn together. Let me know! Thanks for allowing me to post, hope to see yall on the lake!! Jeff

I am still snickering about the Bass Pro Shops remark! Welcome to the site, there is much to learn from this bunch of toona chunkers. First thing is that one trip to BPS is a mere drop in the bucket! lol! We will see how long she appreciates your new hobby in a year! Use the pontoon boat for fishing for trolling and fishing for white bass, hybrids and stripers (and spotted bass when they are in the "jumps and schools"). Keep your eyes open on here when someone offers a backseat be ready to sign up. Before you know it it will start making a little more sense. You can always ante and hire Mike to take you out as well.
Welcome!

Welcome Jeff. Get ready for some fun, but frustrating times on the "Dead Sea"! I've found that if you look at your time on Allatoona as a chance to get out on the boat and enjoy the fresh air and sunshine, then it won't matter so much when you get skunked (which still happens to even the most experienced of anglers on Allatoona). Also, if you like a challenge, "breaking the code" on Allatoona is a good one. If you hang in there long enough, the skunks will become fewer and farther between. And the guys on this forum can really speed up the learning process for you. Good luck and enjoy!

Just a quick hello from a REAL Newbie. Moved down to the area in 1989 and just plain forgot all about my fishing poles and stuff. Now i seem to have more time for leisure, so I thought I'd try something i know a little about, and as you will soon discover I mean, LITTLE! I don't have a boat so will be limited to presentations to the tree gods form the shoreline only, till I get the bug to get my own boat. Even then, I'm thinking small, not to flashy, but fish able . Any Ideas guys? Thanks for the opportunity to join, I need the training LOL

charlie, My 3 favorite areas to fish that are shore line accessible and have some xmas trees to fish (when the water is up) is Gaults Ferry Ramp, Red Top peninsula, and victoria. All 3 areas have parking and best places to try from the shore that I know of.
